Innovate is proving that 'prevention is better than cure' by giving the nation's workforce a 'health MOT'.

It is reported that the average person takes 8.5 days off sick a year, costing the British economy £12 billion.

But what if you could have someone come into your workplace who could not only give your staff a check-up, but also perform health assessments to predict where potential health problems might be?

Innovate has developed a programme that can offer preventative measures rather than cures.

"The NHS and medical practices only offer a service when things go wrong, when you become ill. There is nothing out there about preventing it," said Dr Aamer Khan (Medical Director).

"Our aim, through health assessments, is to provide a service that looks at an individual's current health, the factors and all of the important areas that may impact on their future health and well-being, such as stress, obesity, heart disease, etc."

"Each person is unique and therefore will have a personalised consultation focusing on their individual circumstances. This will allow us to create a personal health profile, which is individually tailored to provide specific advice relating to that individual. This then forms part of a company's health profile ultimately reducing health risk."

"It is very much like an MOT. It is a way of looking at individual or employees current health, assessing the factors that have been shown to have an impact on your future health and well-being."

He added: "If someone takes the day off work to go to the doctors it is costing time and money and putting more pressure on the other members of staff. We are putting a doctor into a workplace for maybe one day a week so people can get a check-up without having to take time off work. This in turn means that they don't go off sick so often, saving the company time and money in the long-term."
