Job Search and Placement Service
Whilst the training structure has built-in modules that enable students to understand and prepare for the vital task of, looking for and obtaining employment in the chosen discipline, we also take care to ensure that this process is as swift as possible. We work closely with various agencies involved in the recruitment market. The overall basis of our approach is training for a vocation.
How the process works
Throughout the duration of the training (whichever stream is chosen), there is a heavy emphasis on preparing the student for the real world of work. All training is geared towards resolving practical work-related problems and incorporates real-life scenarios and exercises. Our aim is to ensure that trainees are productive from day one in their new jobs.
At the end of the relevant course, there are special sessions which take students through the practical problems of looking for a job. This involves:
How to search the job market and narrow down the most promising areas where the new skills learnt are likely to be needed.
How to prepare good professional CVs and how to present them via covering letters.
Interview skills and techniques to help relax at interview and present one's best.
Negotiating training contracts and ensuring that one is not being exploited unduly.
On finishing the relevant course, students have the option of accepting our work experience scheme. This involves the placement of the student with a potential employer or an organisation which can provide a few weeks of practical experience for the trainee. This may be paid or unpaid depending on the employer, the availability and acceptance of any employment assistance such as the New Deal, etc. We often find that at the end of the placement period, most employers show an interest in keeping the trainee and offering a permanent position.
Our partner agencies operate in the private as well as the public sector and we have many clients who are willing to take on trainees on several weeks work placement. This aspect of gaining actual experience is often as essential as the training itself in ultimately obtaining a secure permanent job.
